Two Wolves: A Cherokee Tale

This post from Phil Gerbyshak's blog Make It Great! embodies some of the positive aspects of the LLMA '07 experience. It's from an old Cherokee Native American tale that Phil found at Serious Things.

State Advisory Council on Libraries (SACL) Members Needed

Here's a leadership opportunity worth your consideration:

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners is looking for a few people to serve on the State Advisory Council on Libraries(SACL). Among other duties and responsibilities, this 16 member council reviews and makes recommendations to the MBLC on Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant programs and applications. Members of SACL typically attend four meetings per year (tentative dates for 2007-2008 are October 3, January 2, March 6 and June 4) and read and review 15-25 grant applications each year. Terms are for three years. SACL representatives come from: private and public academic libraries, institutional libraries, school libraries, public libraries, special/corporate libraries, libraries serving those with disabilities, and library users.

This year, there are vacancies for a public academic representative, a small public library representative, and a library user. SACL members point to their service as a valuable learning experience, and a great way to find out what is going on in libraries of all kinds throughout the state.

If you are interested please send a resume, CV or letter before August 15, 2007 detailing your relevant experience and why you would like to serve on SACL to the attention (e-mail is acceptable) of Beth Wade, Grants Manager, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, 98 North Washington Street, Suite 401, Boston, MA 02114-1933, 800-952-7403 (in state) 617-725-1860 (out of state), FAX: 617-725-0140, beth.wade@state.ma.us
